Are you willing to share your expertise, represent your community, and provide input on our programs and services? Then we invite you to join the Women’s Connection Community Advisory Group!

The goal of the Advisory Group is to help us ensure our services and programs reflect the needs of our community. The Advisory Group meets once a month to gain the input of community members and service users in Parkdale. Be a part of the health and wellness of Parkdale!

Programming Updates for February

Here's what's on in February:

Harm Reduction Programming:

  • The Kit Group takes place on Tuesdays from 1-3PM in the Board Room. To sign up, please call 416.537.2455, ext 271, or drop by the Harm Reduction Room on the first floor. 
  • KAPOW takes place Fridays from 10-11:30AM in the Board Room. For more information, please call Victoria at 416.537.2455, ext. 361. KAPOW will be cancelled on February 24th and March 3rd.
  • The Harm Reduction Program will be open for regular drop-in hours throughout February.

Population Health Programming:

  • Shirley Hepditch, Client Support Worker, has drop-in hours on Monday and Friday from 10AM-12PM and Tuesday from 2-4PM. Drop-in will not take place on February 6th, 17th, 20th, 21st, 27th, and 28th.
  • The next ID Clinic will take place on Wednesday February 15thfrom 10AM-12PM.
  • housing worker from West End Housing Help is available on Monday February 13th and 27th from 1-4PM. For more information, or to book an appointment, please call 416.537.2455 or speak to the first floor receptionist.

Senior's Programming:

  • The English Conversation Club will resume in March.
  • The Seniors Wellness Drop-In will resume in March.
  • Seniors Keeping in Touch is a weekly program so seniors to stay connected this winter. Let's get together and beat the cold weather! Join us from Tuesdays from 1-2:30PM from January 17th to February 14th.
  • Fit for Life is a pole walking group for participants aged 55 and above. Join us for pole walking, pole strengthening, balance, and stretching. This program takes place on Wednesdays from 10:30-11:30AM from January 11th to March 15th. Please wear comfortable clothes and proper footwear for indoor and outdoor walking. For more information, or to register, please contact Sandra at 416.537.2455, ext. 238. Group registration is limited to 10 participants. 
  • Seniors Cooking Together is a five week cooking program co-facilitated by a Seniors Health Promoter and Registered Dietitian. Cook, learn, and share a meal together! Join us on Thursdays from 10AM-12PM from March 2nd to 30th.

Families and Newcomers Programming:

  • Bridging the Gap is an inter-generational knitting club for beginner and experienced knitters to share their knowledge and learn new skills. Come to learn, share, socialize, and meet new friends! This group takes place on Wednesdays from 9:30-11:30AM from February 1st to March 29th.
  • Make the Connection is a free program for parents and babies from birth to 12 months. Learn more about connecting with your baby in ways that make your baby feel loved and promote language and learning. Meet other parents and find out about services in your community. This group runs on Mondays from 10AM-12PM from February 6th to April 3rd.

Health and Dental Programming:

  • Food and Mood is a one day workshop facilitated by a Registered Dietitian that looks at food cravings, the effects of food on our mind, and tips for healthy eating. Join us on Thursday February 16th from 10-11:30AM. For more information, or to register, please contact Minxue at 416.537.2455, ext. 304.
  • The Healthy Smiles Dental Clinic is open from 8AM-4PM Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday and is open from 10AM-6PM on Wednesdays. Note that some Wednesday clinics will take place at 2340 Dundas St West. 
  • The West End Oral Health Clinic takes place on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 4:30-7:30PM. The clinic will also be open on Saturday February 25th from 11AM-3PM. The clinic will be closed on February 22nd and 23rd.
  • The Infant Hearing Program takes place on Fridays from 9AM-4:30PM. For more information, please contact 416.338.8255.
  • The Naturopath Clinic takes places on Tuesdays from 12PM-6PM. To book an appointment, please request the sign-up sheet from the first floor receptionist. There is currently a waiting list of six months. For more information, please contact Sarah Bowler, ND (Supervisor) via email at parkdale@ccnm.edu.
  • Anonymous HIV testing is offered on Fridays for members of the general public. Please call 416.537.2455,ext. 222, to book an appointment.

Diabetes Programming:

  • The Living Well Lunch Club will take place on Monday February 13th at 12:30PM.
  • Living Life Well with Diabetes is an eight week introductory workshop that teaches participants about blood sugar management, medications, healthy eating on a budget, physical activity, coping with stress, and more. The program runs Thursdays from 1:30-3:30PM from January 26th to March 16th.

5Ps Programming:

  • Mom and Baby Circle takes place Mondays from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. This program is for parents and caregivers of babies 0-6 months. The waitlist for this program is temporarily closed, please call for information about other programs.
  • Baby & Me takes place Mondays from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at 27 Roncesvalles, Suite 503. This program is for parents and caregivers of babies 6-12 months. The waitlist for this program is temporarily closed, please call for information about other programs.
  • Prenatal Nutrition and Support takes place Thursdays from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m.
  • The Language of Parenting is a prenatal workshop series for expectant parents and theirtransition to parenting as a couple. This program runs on Wednesday nights from 5:30-7:45PM from February 1st to March 8th.
  • Childcare is available for registered participants with children aged 0-12 years. If you would like to register in any 5Ps programs, please call Nevetha at 416.537.8222, ext. 502 or Stacia at ext. 505.

Women's Connection Programming:

  • The Postpartum Mood Disorders Support Group takes place on Tuesdays from 2-4PM. This group is for mothers who are experiencing symptoms of PPMD who live in the west end of Toronto. Childcare is provided. For self-referral for intake and assessment regarding postpartum mood disorders, please call Grazyna at 416.537.8222, ext. 303.

Community Worker Training on Diabetes Management

The Diabetes Education Program at Parkdale CHC will be running a one day workshop on diabetes management that is geared towards boarding home workers, cooks and food service workers, and community workers who work one-on-one with clients. The workshop will take place on Friday February 10th from 10AM-4PM at our main site at 1229 Queen Street West. Click here to view the workshop poster.

Topics discussed include:

  • General diabetes information
  • Hypo/hyperglycemia signs and symptoms and management
  • Nutrition and diabetes
  • Emergency care information
  • Long term complications

Space is limited and pre-registration is required by Friday February 3rd. Lunch will be provided. To register, please email melissa.hergott@pchc.on.ca and specify your name, job title, organization, and any dietary restrictions.

  • Anger Management Counselling is offered both on a one-to-one basis and in a group format, depending on the needs of individuals and their comfort levels. The program targets two groups: individuals who are mandated by the law to take Anger Management course and people who are interested in taking the course for their own personal growth. Participants are required to attend six to eight sessions in order to complete the program. Referrals are accepted from probation officers, physicians, or other professionals. Self-referrals are also accepted. The program is for people living in the GTA area. For more information or to book an appointment, please call Elizabeth Guete at (416) 537 2455. ext 306.

Notice of Special Meeting for Members of Parkdale CHC

A special meeting of the members of the Centre will be held at 1229 Queen Street West on January 11th, 2017, at 6:30 p.m. for the purpose of approving the proposed amalgamation of the Centre with Central Toronto Community Health Centres (Queen West) to form a new community health centre named Parkdale Queen West Community Health Centre.

Use the principles of cognitive behavioural therapy to learn more about mental well-being and how to make small changes to feel happier, less stress, and more in control. This program runs on Wednesdays from 10-11:30AM from October 26th to December 14th at 20 West Lodge Ave. Space is limited. Registration is required. This program is full.
  • Chronic Pain and Self-Management is a six week workshop that aims to help individuals with chronic pain manage their health and quality of life with confidence. This group is open to anyone living with chronic pain and anyone providing care and support to someone living with chronic pain. Participants will learn about positive thinking, goal setting, pacing activity and rest, decision-making skills, communication skills, meducation use and treatment evaluation, and healthy eating. Participants will receive TTC tokens, a relaxation CD, and "Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Pain" (book). This group takes place on Thursdays from 10AM-12:30PM from October 27th to December 1st. Pre-registration is required. This program is full.
