Programming Updates for July

Here's what's on this month:

Street Health and Harm Reduction programming:

  • The Men's Drop-In will take place on Thursday July 4th and 18th.
  • The next ID Clinic will take place on Wednesday July 17th from 10AM-12PM.

Seniors programming:

  • The Peace through Piecing Quilting Group will take place on Monday July 8th. Please call Sandra at 416.537.2455, ext. 238, for more information.
  • Wednesday Afternoon at the Movies: join other seniors to watch four episodes of Senior Star on Wednesday July 3rd, 10th, 17th, and 24th from 3:30-5PM. Please call Sandra at 416.537.2455, ext. 238, for more information.
  • The Seniors Drop on Tuesday afternoons from 1-3PM. Topics discussed this month include Oral Health (July 9th), Medical Safety (July 16th), Breast Cancer Awareness (July 23rd).

Diabetes programming:

  • The Living Well Lunch Club will be taking place on Monday July 15th.
  • Craving Change is a three week workshop that will help participants improve their relationship with food and eating habits.  The program uses cognitive behavioural principles to help individuals discuss and reflect on why they eat and not what they eat. While this program is geared towards individuals with diabetes, you do not have to have diabetes to participate. To register, please call Mel Hergott: 416-537-2455, x. 236.

5Ps and Women's Connection programming:

  • The Annual Parkdale Families Picnic will take place on Thursday July 11th from 19AM-2PM in High Park.
  • The Language of Parenting has been cancelled and will resume in the fall.

Health and Dental:

  • The Acupuncture for Detox Program will continue to run on Wednesdays until  July 10th. Sessions will take place from 10AM until 11:30AM. Please arrive before 10:15 am to gain entry. For more information, please call Norma Hannant: 416.537.8222, x.306.

Closure notice:

  • Parkdale CHC will be closed on Saturday June 29th and Monday July 1st for Canada Day.

Acupuncture for Detox Drop-In Program on Until July 10th

Are you experiencing stress or anxiety?
Are you having difficulties managing your highs and lows?
Are you struggling with substance abuse or addiction?

You may benefit from acupuncture.

Parkdale CHC is pleased to offer a FREE drop-in acupuncture program (acudetox for addictions) led by a Nurse Practitioner and Social Worker/Therapist. A variety of therapeutic techniques will be used including mindfulness, music, and guided meditation in a group setting.

This program has been extended to run until Wednesday July 10th. Sessions will take place from 10AM until 11:30AM.

Please note that participants need to come to the sessions before 10:15 am to gain entry.

National Aboriginal Celebration this Friday June 21st

Join Parkdale CHC as we celebrate National Aboriginal Day on Friday June 21st from 10AM to 12PM in our first floor Board Room.

LGBTQ Programming in June

Join us during our weekly LGBTQ Drop-In on Tuesday afternoons. This month's drop-in activities include:

  • Tuesday June 4th: Documentary on transwoman Jennifer McCreath. 2-4PM.
  • Tuesday June 11th: "Let's Talk about Depression: with Dr. Gary Burrows. 12-2PM.
  • Tuesday June 18th: Allen Gardens Trip at 1PM. Please pre-register.
  • Tuesday June 25th: Games from 2-4PM.

Additionally, the LGBT*Q Annual Pride Celebration will take place on Friday June 21st from 5:30-8PM in the Parkdale CHC backyard. Join us for Queeraoke with Jason Rowlland, prizes, and a backyard BBQ.

June is Seniors Month!

Join us for a variety of activities for seniors at Parkdale CHC and in the community:

  • Tuesday June 4th: Elder Abuse Workshop and Sign Making at 245 Dunn Ave from 1-3PM.
  • Tuesday June 11th: Extraordinary Theatre Performance by the Smile Theatre at 20 West Lodge Ave at 7PM. A ticket is required.
  • Tuesday June 18th: Elder Abuse Awareness Community Walk starting at Parkdale CHC (1229 Queen St W) at 10AM.
  • Tuesday June 25th: Zumba Gold at the Seniors Drop-In at Parkdale CHC from 1-3PM.

Here's what's on in May at the 5P's (Parkdale Parents' Primary Prevention Project):

Mom and Baby Circle:

  • June 3rd  - Parkdale Childrens' Librarian

  • June 17th - Polycultural Immigrant and Community Services
  • June 24th - Parkdale Childrens' Librarian

This program takes place on Mondays from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. This program is currently has a waitlist for registration. If you would like to register, please call 416.537.8222, extension 502.

Baby and Me:

  • June 6th - Nutrition in Babies
  • June 13th - Taking Care of a Sick Child
  • June 20th - Toronto Speech and Language
  • June 27th - Sun Safety

Prenatal Nutrition & Support Program:

  • June 5th - Healthy Relationships
  • June 12th - The importance of Breastfeeding

  • June 26th - Preterm Labour

This program runs on Wednesdays from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. or from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. This course is open to parents who are adopting as well. There are still spaces available. To register, please call 416.537.8222 extension 502 or 505.
