Important Announcement from the Board of Directors

Dear Clients and Friends,

It is with mixed emotions that we, the Board of Directors, announce that Carla Ribeiro will be departing as Executive Director of the Parkdale Community Health Centre (PCHC). While it is with heavy hearts that we share this news, we do so knowing that this change marks the beginning of a new and exciting journey for all of us.

Under Carla's leadership, we have seen a transformation at PCHC. In the last five years, we have emerged as a stable, responsive and growing organization. Some of the accomplishments attributable to the vision and direction provided by Carla in this short time include: the attainment of a stellar Accreditation rating; the development and implementation of a Quality Improvement agenda; the expansion of services in oral health care; and the increase of access to primary healthcare and mental health services for Parkdale residents. Further, PCHC has demonstrated system leadership by participating in successful integration initiatives such as the transfer of the women's mental health services, previously associated with St. Joseph's Health Centre. We have also established new partnerships that have built on our long history of community development and that focus on improving the health and well-being of community residents. Carla has done a truly remarkable job and will be sorely missed. We know that she will bring as much passion and care to her new adventure as she brought to PCHC, and we wish her well as she returns to full time doctoral studies.

While we are saddened by Carla's departure, we know this change also offers an unexpected opportunity for us. We believe that the stability that Carla has forged both within PCHC and beyond our doors allows us to stop and reflect. Where do we see the Parkdale Community in the next five, ten, thirty years? Over the coming months, we will be consulting with PCHC's staff, clients, community partners, and funders to seek answers to a few related key questions: How can we best continue to position PCHC as a leader in the health system? How can we ensure our sustainability as a community health centre? How can we best improve client experience along the continuum of care?

To allow us to answer these questions and to define the role of our Executive Director in this context, the Board has decided to postpone the hiring of a new Executive Director until we have clearly determined what will be required in the role. In the meantime, we are pleased to announce that Shirley Roberts, Director of Primary Health Care, will be Acting Executive Director for 12 months as of February 1st, 2015. Shirley has worked at PCHC alongside Carla for the past five years and has an excellent grasp of PCHC's current goals and vision. We are confident that she will keep PCHC on course while we collectively refine our vision for the Centre. We will be immediately advertising for a contract position to fill Shirley's role.

The Board strongly feels that this process must be a collaborative one. We intend to consult as widely as possible during this process. We welcome any feedback that you would like to offer and will be in touch over the upcoming months with ways to ensure this happens.
