Programming Updates for April 2018



 Here's what's on in April:

Please be advised that our telephone extensions have changed. Updated numbers are listed below. 

Harm Reduction Programming:

  • The Kit Group takes place on Tuesdays from 1-3PM in the Board Room. To sign up, please call 416.537.2455, ext. 1271, or drop by the Harm Reduction Room on the first floor. 
  • KAPOW takes place Fridays from 10-11:30AM in the Board Room. For more information, please call Victoria at 416.537.2455, ext. 1361. 
  • The Harm Reduction Program has extended hours: Monday – Thursday 10 A.M. – 12 P.M. and 1 P.M. – 8 P.M. *Wednesdays from 10 A.M. – 11:30 A.M. and 3 P.M. - 8 P.M.*
  • The Harm Reduction Program has a new Harm Reduction and Overdose Prevention Outreach Program: GEAR. For more information please contact the outreach team at 647-825-GEAR (4237).

Population Health Programming:

  • The ID Clinic will take place on Wednesday April 18th from 10AM-12PM
  • housing worker from West End Housing Help is available on Mondays from 1-4PM. For more information, or to book an appointment, please call 416.537.2455 or speak to the first floor receptionist.
  • Tax season is here and so is The Free Tax Clinic, please click on the link for more information.

Senior's Programming:

  • Seniors Program Calendar April 2018
  • The Seniors Wellness Drop-In takes place on Tuesdays from 1-3PM starting January 16th.
  • Low Impact Aerobic Fitness Program 55+ takes place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10-11AM starting on Tuesday January 16th at the Church of Epiphany and St. Mark at 201 Cowan Ave.
  • Living Life to the Full is a fun and engaging 8-weeks course that provides people from all walks of life with effective tools to maximize their ability to manage life's challenges.  The program is based on the principles of cognitive behavior therapy.  The program starts March 7, 2018 and will be every Wednesday from 3:30PM-5PM, at the Parkdale Intercultural Association 1257 Queen Street West.
  • Pole Walking Program 55+ takes place on Wednesdays from 10:30-11:30AM starting January 17th at the Church of Epiphany and St. Mark at 201 Cowan Ave.
  • Seniors Salad Making is a fun program starting April 5th, 2018 and will be on the first Thursday of every month. The program is for seniors 65+ and it will be hosted at Parkdale Queen West CHC – Parkdale Site at 1229 Queen Street West, 1st floor, Large Group Room. Attendance is by registration only. Families and Newcomers Programming:

  • Guys Can Cook is a 7 weeks program for guys 13 – 18 years of age starting March 29th to May 7th from 3:30 pm. – 7:30 p.m. at Parkdale Community Health Centre 1229 Queen Street West.   • Child Minding Training takes place on Tuesdays from 2:45-4:45PM starting January 16th until April 24th at Parkdale Intercultural Association at 1365 Queen St. West.

  • Let's Get Cooking to Prevent Diabetes is a free 6 week program for adults aged 24 - 65 who do not have diabetes but can learn how food choices can help prevent type 2 daibetes. This program will be on Fridays from 1PM-4PM starting May 4th, 2018.  Tokens and childminding included.  Please register now as space is limited.  To register, please call Christine Young at 416 537 2455 ext. 1304 and see the attached flyer for more details.

Health Services:

  • Shirley Hepditch, Case Worker, has drop-in hours on Monday and Friday from 10AM-12PM and Tuesday from 2-4PM. The drop-in is cancelled on April 10th, 13th, 23rd, 24th and 27th.
  • Anonymous HIV testing is offered for members of the general public. Please call 416.537.2455, ext.1222, to book an appointment. Please note that appointment availability is limited. 
  • The Infant Hearing Program takes place on Fridays from 9AM-4:30PM. For more information, please contact 416.338.8255.
  • The Naturopath Clinic takes places on Tuesdays from 12PM-6PM. To book an appointment, please request the sign-up sheet from the first floor receptionist. There is currently a waiting list of one year. For more information, please contact Sarah Bowler, ND (Supervisor) via email at parkdale@ccnm.edu.

 Dental Services:

  • The Healthy Smiles Dental Clinic is open from 8AM-4PM Monday to Friday. For more information, please call 416.338.5652.
  • The West End Oral Health Clinic takes place on Thursdays from 4:30-7:30PM on March 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th and on Saturday March 17th from 11AM-3:30PM.

Diabetes Programming:

  • The Living Well Lunch Club will take place on Monday March 5 at 12:30PM.
  • The Insulin Support Group usually takes place on Thursdays from 1:30PM-3:30PM.  Please keep posted for March 2018 dates.
  • The Spice Workshop will be on Fridays starting March 9th to April 5th from12:30PM-2:30PM (with a field trip on April. 5th)
  • Helping You Cope with Diabetes through Art will take place on Friday April 6, 2018 at 1:30 P.M. at Parkdale Queen West – Parkdale Site 1229 Queen Street West on the first floor, Large Group Room.

5Ps Programming:

  • Mom and Baby Circle takes place Mondays from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. This program is for parents and caregivers of babies 0-6 months. 
  • Baby & Me takes place Mondays from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at 27 Roncesvalles, Suite 503. This program is for parents and caregivers of babies 6-12 months. 
  • Prenatal Nutrition and Support takes place Thursdays from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and from 1:30 to 3:0PM
  • Language of Parenting Workshop will be on every other Wednesday from Feb. 14th – April 25th, 2018 at 6pm – 7:45pm, 27 Roncesvalles Ave, Suite 503. This program is for couples and co-parents with infants 0-12 months with a focus on parenthood, infant mental health, and stress in relationships, healthy attachment and more. Childcare is available for registered participants with children aged 0-6 years. Women's Connection Programming:

  • The Postpartum Mood Disorders Support Group takes place on Tuesdays from 2-4PM. This group is for mothers who are experiencing symptoms of PPMD who live in the west end of Toronto. Childcare is provided. For self-referral for intake and assessment regarding postpartum mood disorders, please call 416.537.8222.
  • Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy Group for Spanish Speaking Women will run from March 1st to May3rd, every Thursday from 10AM-2PM at the main site, Parkdale Community Health Centre 1229 Queen Street West for 8weeks plus an introductory session.  To register please call Isabel at 416 537 8222 ext. 3305. **Registration is now closed for this program. **
