Seniors Advocacy Group

Parkdale Community Health Centre provides opportunities for seniors to get together to discuss issues relevant to their well being. The Seniors Advocacy Group is opens to seniors living in the Parkdale area. The goal of the group is to increase leadership and civic engagement among seniors concerned about community issues. Seniors get involved in different activities aimed at advocating for better services as well as participate in a variety of workshops and information sessions on leadership, mentorship, and advocacy skills.

Some of the advocacy events or issues they have been working include:

  • Meeting with local politician Gord Perks
  • Elder Abuse Awareness Community Walk
  • Attendance at rallies at Queens Park
  • Advocacy for a more affordable TTC for seniors by collecting signatures and partnering with other groups of seniors

The group meets once a month to discuss ideas and plan activities as needed.
