We successfully engage students of nursing, social work, social service and community worker programs. PCHC offers a range of learning experiences, which includes organizational engagement and training. Students have to attend and be involved in interdisciplinary group learnings, as well as team and all staff meetings. When staff development sessions are offered in-house, students are welcome to join us.
If you are a student seeking placement please consider the following:
- We are interested in students from recognized colleges and universities at the 2nd or 3rd year level only
- We will only consider students for a minimum of 4 months to a preferred max of a full year
- We can only accommodate 4-5 students per term
- We need a copy of a recent police check and proof of liability insurance from your school to start the placement
If you wish to approach us:
- Please look at the website: read all documents including our Annual Reports to determine which of primary health or population health is your main interest
- Identify one or two programs you are interested in
- Prepare a cover letter that includes the name of your school, year you are entering with this placement, term of placement (please specify dates), how many days a week you would like to designate for the placement, the programs you are interested in
- Submit cover letter and resume highlighting any past placements, current studies, work and volunteer experience
- Refer to Director of Population Health and Community Engagement, Susan Clancy
Next steps:
- If accepted, the Director of Population Health and Community Engagement will contact you to set up an interview with the staff related to the program
- Come to the interview with a draft of your learning objectives
- The interview is mutual in that both parties are assessing whether the placement is acceptable
- If the placement is confirmed, please ensure all documents are provided for your file and set a first day orientation with the Director
Note: If you are a student with a base in health policy, program evaluations, needs assessment we could have a specific task in mind. Also if you are a research student, we may have a topic that would require your skills.
